How to get rid of acne, blemishes and hyper pigmentation for good.
Growing up, I had very smooth skin until I turned 12.
The first YouTube video I watched was from a girl called Carlyn—I think cute Carlyn—can't remember. She said, "Always wash your bedding. Where you put your face at night when you sleep for 6-8 hours matters a lot". I don't have much to say about this, but this was also a game-changer. I started washing my pillowcase at least once a week. Or at least I change it if I am too lazy to clean it. Also, your laundry detergent matters a lot. Make sure you find a very mild yet effective detergent for your bedding. I find one with a pleasant fragrance that doesn't harm my face/skin.
Tip 4: Avoid touching your face with your hands, and always keep your hands clean.
Our hands contain a lot of bacteria and germs that are not only harmful when they come in contact with our skin but also deadly when they lurk in our fingers because they can cause deadly fungal diseases. When you touch your face, the germs on your hands get transferred to your skin when contact is made. Just avoid touching your face!
Tip 5: Stop popping your pimples.
Popping your pimples causes more damage than good. I know that feeling when you just popped a zit that has been hurting you. But lemme tell you, the relief will just be momentary because the bacteria from that one will spread to the rest of your face and create more acne! Let's not forget the acne scars & blemishes coming up when your face is healed. Stop popping your pimples, it didn't do any good for me, so I doubt if it will do any good for you too.
I started noticing there were huge zits on my face. I blamed it on the powder I had been using or my cleanser. My mind hadn't thought about puberty being another cause of my breakouts. And because of my lack of knowledge of the things that could make my acne go away, I kept steaming and scrubbing my face with a face towel. Don't forget I was popping the pimples daily, which left a massive scar on my face. Before I knew what was happening, my face was severely damaged, and I had severe acne all over my face.
My mom was getting worried about my obsession with getting my acne gone. I vividly remember her saying, "It's just puberty; in no time, it will be gone.".
12 became 13, and 13 became 14.
I remember my older sister recommending affordable facial creams that I could use, but those, too, didn't work.
At 17, I was already getting used to the acne, and I was done trying to cover it with makeup. I remember people who didn't have acne or never had breakouts laughing at me and making jokes about the state of my face. My self-esteem was reduced to nothing, and I didn't feel pretty as I used to back in junior high. But turning 17 changed my perceptions about acne. I realized I wasn't doing enough to remove my acne, so I researched. I asked Google many questions on how to get rid of acne, and I watched skincare videos on YouTube.
My mom died when I was 15, and my older sister was in college, so I was all alone in my acne journey. Fortunately, I got valuable information from the blogs I read, and the videos I watched on YouTube.
So in this blog, I'll give you tips on how to get rid of acne, blemishes, and hyperpigmentation for good. These tips worked for me, they might do the same for you. But before I start, I'd like to clarify that I have an oily skin combination, so the products recommended in this blog might work mainly for acne-prone skin. However, some of these products might work on all skin types.
P.S.- I will be turning 18 by November, meaning this routine and tips are fresh. The skin care products are also available on Amazon or any online store. You can also find these products at any local beauty supply store.
6 tips to get rid of acne, blemishes, and hyperpigmentation for good
Tip 1: Have a good diet plan
According to Dr.Axe, your gut plays a vital role in how the appearance of your skin would be like. What you eat or take into your body can affect your skin/outward look. I was once a soda girl. I remember taking soda and chips during break time every day. Or pastries. I was also one of those people who had zero appetite, so when I wanted to eat, I ate primarily carbs and sugary things so that I could get energy from the little that I had eaten. But I was always underweight regardless of the amount of junk food I ate. These carbs, sodium-filled foods, unhealthy dairies, etc., are not suitable for your skin. Try to watch what you take into your body from today. You could even consult a nutritionist to give you a good diet plan.
Tip 2: Drink enough water
I know you must be tired of hearing about this. But this is the truth. Water helps in so many ways. And I think a lot of us underestimate water. Water cleanses, rejuvenates, and heals. Trust me; I was one of those people that barely drank water. I could take just a glass of water daily, and I would be okay because I had already drunk soda in school. I decided that if I was going to take this skin thing seriously, I had to up my water game. I started drinking water consistently and added lemon to a glass of warm water every day. However, I don't do this (warm lemon water) during my period. Water helps a lot trust me. So cut out that bad habit of not drinking enough water today!
Tip 3: Your hygiene has a lot to say about your skin appearance

Tip 5: Skincare products
When it comes to acne and blemish-prone skin, finding the right facial cleanser can make all the difference. Neutrogena Pink Grapefruit Facial Cleanser is a great option, thanks to its Salicylic acid content, which helps to remove acne. Its precise micro technology and unique ingredients make it effective yet affordable. If you're looking for alternatives, CeraVe foaming facial cleanser and Cetaphil are excellent options.

In addition to facial cleansers, other products can help with acne-prone skin, such as sunscreen, moisturizers, mild exfoliants, and serums.
Overall, not all products may work for acne-prone skin. It's all about finding what works best for your skin type and individual needs. However, it's important to check the ingredients of any skincare product you decide to use.
Tip 6: Consult your dermatologist.
These tips and products worked for me, but they don't mean it would do the same for you. We all have different skin types. If any product causes irritation or discomfort, I advise you to stop using that product. It can only make your acne worse.
Remember, it's all about your skin and consistency. Ensure to consult your dermatologist before taking any action!
